He was 85 years old and had been professed for 67 years.


 

Fr. Stanisław Wąsik

Fr. Stanisław Wąsik was born on May 2nd 1940 in Rybna, in the Małopolska region. He was baptised on  May 11th  1940 in the parish church of St. Casimir in his hometown, receiving the names Stanisław Adolf. From 1947 to 1954, he attended primary school in Rybna, and then continued his education at the Vocational School, which he completed in 1957. In 1957, he applied for admission to the Salvatorians. 

On  August 10th 1957, he began his novitiate in Bagno, taking the religious name Alban. He made his first religious vows on September 8th 1958 and his perpetual profession in September 1961. After completing secondary school and obtaining his matriculation certificate, he studied philosophy and theology at the Salvatorian Major Seminary in Bagno. In 1966, he was ordained a deacon in Krakow. He was ordained a priest on June 28th 1966 in Trzebinia.

The pastoral work of Fr. Stanisław Wąsik covered numerous religious and diocesan institutions as warranted by the needs of that time. In 1966–1967, he spent a pastoral year in Krakow on Łobzowska Street. He then worked as a vicar in Widuchowa (1967–1970), in the parish of St. Stephen in Krakow (1970–1971), in Koczurki (1971–1973), in Puławy (1976–1978), in Krakow-Czyżyny (1978–1980) and in Dobczyce (1980–1982). In the period 1982–2012, he served as a pastoral assistant, connecting for thirty years with a diocesan parish community in Lachowice.  From 2012, he lived in Krakow in the community of. St. Sister Faustina Street, fulfilling the role of the community consultor, and later retiring.

During his ministry, he travelled to Germany several times, where he supported a small congregation of sisters in running a nursing home in Münster. In the last years of his retired life, he regularly served as a confessor at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Krakow-Łagiewniki, located within a 5 minute walk from the community house, sometimes hearing confessions for several hours a day.

He died on January 19th 2026 at St. Raphael's Hospital in Krakow. He lived for 85 years, including 67 years of religious life and 59 years as a priest. The funeral ceremony took place at the Basilica of Divine Mercy in Krakow, presided over by Bishop Jan Zając on January 26th 2026. The body of our confrere was laid to rest in the Salvatorian tomb at the parish cemetery in Borek Fałęcki.
