RIP: 15/10/2024 - Videira
Fr. Selvino Baldissera was born on 16 October 1949 in Ipoméia, in the district of Caçador - Santa Catarina. After completing his primary studies, he entered the Videirense Institute at the age of 15, preparing himself for the next stages of his education, which he would do at the minor seminary of the Salvatorians in Conchas. He entered the Salvatorian novitiate in the Vila Marina district of São Paulo and on 24 February 1974 he professed his first temporary vows in the Society through the Brazilian Province in the church of the Immaculate Conception in Videira. Immediately afterwards he studied philosophy and theology in São Paulo. He concluded his initial formation with his ordination to the priesthood on 16 January 1982 in the same church where he had professed his first vows. In his apostolic service, Fr. Selvino was mainly involved in two fields: parish pastoral service and initial formation: he was, among others, novice master, formator and rector of the Salvatorian formandi, and coordinator of the provincial commission for initial formation. He also served as provincial treasurer for 12 years. Fr. Selvino was a confrere characterised by his fraternal closeness, his availability and austere lifestyle. While he was parochial vicar in the parish of the Immaculate Conception in Videira, without the slightest suspicion of being ill, Fr. Selvino's dead body was found in his room by his completely surprised confreres on 15 October 2024. He was one day short of his 75th birthday and had been a Salvatorian for 50 years.
