RIP: 21/06/2024 - Munich
Fr. Rupert Herberg was born on 23 August 1934 at Wuchzenhofen im Algäu. He made his secondary school studies at the Salvatorian College in Bad Wurzach and started after that the intense period of introduction into Salvatorian religious life in 1955 at the international novitiate in Passau, where, exactly one year later, on 1 May 1956, he professed his first vows in the Society. After having concluded his studies of Philosophy and Theology, he was ordained to the priesthood on 12 March 1961 in the baroque cathedral of Passau. After two years of further training in economics, he returned to the Salvatorian College in Bad Wurzach. From 1965 to 1988 he held the position of house treasurer here. When in 1988 somebody was needed for the service of provincial treasurer, Fr. Rupert was found available to accomplish this. He moved to Munich and took care over the years of the administration of the communities in Munich and Passau, as administrator as well as the bookkeeping of the mission procure in Munich. Throughout his life, he was entrusted with responsible administrative tasks and duties within the Society, which he fulfilled in a diligent and faithful way. Even in the evening of his life, he was a specialist, tinkering with computers and technology. He also regularly conducted church services in many parishes replacing and assisting priests. After a fall, Fr. Rupert was brought to the Hospital, where he only was for a few days on the palliative care ward. He died early morning on 21 June 2024. He was 89 years old and had been for 68 years a Salvatorian.
