RIP: 24/11/2023 - Bierhütte
Fr. Godehard Konrad Fuchs was born on 29 December 1930 in Bierhütte in the Bavarian Forest and was given the name Konrad. He was a man who was prepared to leave the beaten track and go his own way. His educational background alone shows this: after primary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a car builder. He could certainly have been successful and found fulfilment in this profession, but a spiritual calling soon became apparent. He decided to join the Society and professed his first religious temporary vows, after having concluded his noviciate on the Klosterberg in Passau on 11 October 1961, when he was already 30 years old. He studied theology in Passau and was ordained a priest in Passau Cathedral on 29 June 1967. He was then appointed as chaplain in the parishes of St Willibald/Munich and Salvator/Stuttgart, and in 1974 Fr. Godehard became a corporate chaplain in Tuttlingen, where he fought for the rights of the workers on an equal footing with the people in the companies and the trade unions, an unusual partnership for the church at the time. 65 years old, Fr. Godehard ended his work as a corporate chaplain and then worked in the parish of St Georg/Gunningen until the year 2000. He moved back to the Bavarian Forest in 2000 and continued to help out in the pastoral care of the parishes in the region for many years. He died on 24 November 2023 in Bierhütte. He was 92 years old and had been a Salvatorian for 62 years.
