RIP: 12/04/2023 - Milwaukee
Fr. Andre Papineau was born on 6 October 1937 in Escanaba, Michigan, in the United States of America. After the first stages of formation, he entered the Society´s novitiate in Colfax, Iowa, where he made his first profession of vows on 8 September 1958. He completed his college studies at Divine Saviour Seminary in Lanham, Maryland, and Catholic University in Washington, DC. He was ordained a priest on 5 June 1965. During his apostolic life, Fr. Andre worked as a teacher at several high schools and colleges. But he also conducted retreats and workshops, especially for those experiencing transitions in life, offering guidance to people going through the pains of separation and divorce. Fr. Andre was a good preacher, and taught many seminarians to preach the Gospel in ways that would truly reach people and help them to fully understand its message. He wrote numerous books on sermons, stories, and life issues. In 2013, Fr. Andre retired from teaching and two years later, he moved to the Alexian village, where many retired confreres live. In 2019, the decision was made to move him to the Silverado North Shore Memory Care facility, not far from Alexian Village, where his overall health gradually diminished. He died peacefully in the hospice, three days after Easter on 12 April 2023. He was 85 years old and had been a Salvatorian for 64 years.
