RIP: 10/12/2022 - Bad Wurzach
Br. Johannes Willburger was born in Weingarten on 4 December 1936. Before he found his way to the Salvatorians in 1962, he had already had a varied educational history: after obtaining his secondary school leaving certificate, he became a carpenter, worked in an architect’s office, studied for a few semesters at the State Building School in Munich and finally became a Salvatorian. He started his novitiate in Passau on 30 April 1963. Exactly one year later, on 1 May 1964, he professed his first vows. The life of Br. Johannes was outwardly marked by great continuity: he worked for 16 years in the garden and in the carpentry at Lochau. He then worked for 34 years as a sacristan in the pilgrimage church on the Gartlberg (Pfarrkirchen). In 2014, Br. Johannes came to Bad Wurzach and spent his retirement here. Although it was not completely quiet, until 2021 he was still in charge of the sacristy, among other things. Worship was part of his life. It speaks for Br. Johannes that he was also able to enjoy and fill the increased free time. He read a lot and kept himself informed. He did not make anything of it, but his knowledge flashed up again and again: In history, in technology, on religious subjects. Br. Johannes knew how to appreciate and gratefully accept the self-evident things of everyday life. A few days after his 86th birthday, Br. Johannes´ health got rapidly worse. He silently passed away in Bad Wurzach on 10 December 2022. He was 86 years old and had been a Salvatorian for 58 years.
