Reconfirmation of Superior General
During the XIX General Chapter Fr. Milton Zonta was reelected Superior General of the Society. Fr. Milton Zonta is 58 years old and was born in Brazil. In 1979 he joined the Society of the Divine Savior. From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the General Council and in 2012 he was elected for the first time as the 11th Superior General.
Election of new General Council
The delegates also elected the new Generalate which is composed of: Fr. Adam Teneta, Vicar General (PL; currently serving as the General Postulator), Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, General Consultor (US; he has just finished two consecutive terms as Provincial Superior), Fr. Agustín Van Baelen, General Consultor (VE; currently serving as General Mission Secretary), Fr. Sunil Thomas Kashamkattil, General Consultor (IMV; serving a second term of office as Superior) and Fr. Ferdinand Lukoa, General Consultor (TA; currently completing his task in the USA as fundraiser for our expansion units). All consultors were elected in the first ballot.
The delegates then re-elected Fr. Scott Wallenfelsz of the US Province as General Treasurer for the next Generalate term, as well as the new members of the International Finance Commission as follows: Fr. Krzysztof Kowalczyk (PL), Fr. Luis Munilla Peña (ES), and Fr. Erhard Rauch (AU).
All other positions and international commissions will be determined later in the fall. The new Generalate will initiate its service with the celebration of the Eucharist and an installation ceremony on 8 DEC 18. Let us congratulate all the newly and re-elected confreres and pray for them as they take up their duties at the service of the Society.
