Death of Fr Andrew Urbanski SDS

Death of Fr Andrew Urbanski SDS

In gratitude for his life and witness, the Society of the Divine Saviour requests to pray for our deceased confrere and former General Superior

He was born in Rajcza (Poland) on May 11, 1947.
He made first vows in Bagno on August 15, 1964.
He was ordained a priest in Kraków-Stradom on June 9, 1973.
Unexpectedly he died at Bagamoyo (Tanzania) on March 15, 2019.

Fr. Andrew was for 20 years a missionary in Tanzania, being for 9 years the Superior of the Mission. From 1993 to 1999, he was the Vicar General and the General Mission Secretary and in 1999 he was elected as the General Superior of the Society of the Divine Saviour. He fulfilled this important responsibility during two consecutive terms of office, always inspired by the apostolic zeal of our Founder, Fr. Francis Jordan, and with a heart full of missionary commitment and the concern that all should know God and his beloved Son, Jesus the Saviour.

A thanksgiving Mass was celebrated at Kurasini Parish in Dar es Salaam, presided by Cardinal Policarp Pengo.

His remains were repatriated to his home country where he will be buried.

The Requiem Mass, presided by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, will take place on 27th March 2019 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Basilica in Trzebinia at 12 m, after the prayer of the rosary which starts at 11:15 am.

Additionally, there will be a special Eucharist at the parish church in Bielsko-Biala on 26th March at 18:30 presided by Bishop Roman Pindel of Bielsko.
