Jan Cornelissen

Fr. Jan Cornelissen

RIP: 02/04/2020 - Hamont

Fr. Jan Cornelissen was born at the city of Hamont on 25 November 1930. After secondary school at the Salvatorian College in Hamont, he was sent to Gottschalkenberg in Switzerland where he made his novitiate and professed his first vows on 8 September 1949. He continued his studies in Fribourg (CH) and in Rome, where he was ordained a priest on 8 December 1954. Fr. Jan was very gifted in languages and this helped him a lot in his service as the Superior of the Belgian Province, but even more when he was a General Consultor of two General Superiors: Fr. Gerard Rogowski (1975 – 1981) and Fr. Malachy McBride (1986 – 1993). Fr. Jan was one of the main collaborators in the process of re-writing the Constitutions of our Society. The last part of his active apostolic life, he spent in parish work and dedicated himself to translations in different languages. Weakened by old age, he died serenely on 2 April 2020.
